Rainy day in the garden

It's been a wet week here in the Dordogne, so not much chance to get out with the camera. So today, I braved the elements and decided to shoot some raindrops on the plant life. I rarely photograph flowers, or foilage, but i'm always amazed by how a few drops of rain, visually brings everything to life!

Next week, I will be travelling back to the UK and visiting 'Gigrin Farm' in Wales, to shoot Red Kites. As i'm away, there will not be a blog next weekend, but look out for a review of my journey in the coming weeks.

    Lovely set of photos, mine have been much the same with this rubbish weather though I have found a few insects around as well. Safe trip and see you when you get back. Diane and Nigel

The story of my award winning 1959 TRIUMPH TR3a This car was manufactured on the 29th October 1959, at the Triumph factory in Coventry, UK.  On the 9th November 1959, the car was dispatched from the factory and shipped to their distributor (Jones Bischoff) in Saint Louis, USA. Sadly, the early history (owner details) is unavailable, due to privacy laws, which means that the records held by the US authorities cannot be shared with 3rd parties. However, they were able to confirm that the car was first registered in the state of Missouri. a Winter Walk around 'Moor Green Lakes' Nature Reserve in Berkshire.....

  This Tawny Owl has made its home here and was happy to show itself. I had never visited 'Moor Green Lakes' before, but I recently found myself staying nearby and spent some very enjoyable days exploring these wonderful wetlands. Formerly, a large area of working gravel pits, it has been sympathetically re-wilded in recent years and now offers a home to a wide range of flora, fauna and birds. Made up of a series of lakes (which includes a 'leisure' section at the far end with a Café) , the remaining wetlands are recognised as a 'nature reserve' and work is ongoing to extend the area to utilise further gravel workings, which have now ended their commercial life. This can only be good news for the local wildlife and biodiversity. Currently, there are 2 very good 'hides', which can be utilised by members of the 'Moor Green Lakes Group' (who are a very welcoming bunch). - membership is only £10.00 per year! The wonderful Red Kite - Photographed at 'Gigrin Farm' in mid Wales

The opportunity to photograph any wild creature is a privilege, so when the chance came up to visit 'Gigrin Farm' in Wales and witness the wonder of Red Kites  I did not need to think twice. T hese birds are totally wild and travel up to 50 miles to feed at this site.   Having travelled from my home in France, I sadly only had the time to visit on one afternoon. However, using the specially built photography hides during those few hours, I managed to take over a thousand images! Below you will find just a few of those pictures, along with some information about these beautiful birds of prey. With a wingspan of over five feet (nearly 2 metres) the Kite is graceful and elegant in flight; its pale grey head and striking almost translucent white underwing patches and black tips on the primaries contrast with warm orange or russet coloured feathers on the body and upper tail which in good light appear to glow.
