after the drought!

I am fortunate enough to live in the beautiful North Dordogne region of South West France. However, this year (2019) has been one of the driest summers that I can remember. With almost no rain from July, to September, the impact on wildlife and natural history, has been devastating. As a wildlife photographer, it has been incredibly difficult to find any subjects to shoot, as pretty much all life has been avoiding the 30-40 degree daily temperatures.

This week, we have finally received the long awaited rain and life is already returning to normal, with birds returning to my garden and flowers and shrubs showing signs of life, where they previously appeared to be long past saving. In fact, the change in the past few days, has been so dramatic, that it has been like turning on a light switch!

It's been great to get back behind the lens again and here are some of my shots from the past few days:

and here is my Gizmo, my constant companion, who regularly sits patiently inside my hide with me:

  1. Gosh, this rain has really cheered life and plants up a but, not sure I like the drop in temperature. I cannot complain though as the rain is so badly needed. I love the young robin, we only ever see a robin here when it gets really cold, they disappear in summer completely. Starlings have the most amazing heart shape pattern and these are great photos. Wonderful set of photos, but I think Gizmo is my favourite, such an honest and lovable best friend.

Take care, we will see you both I hope when we return from RSA in November. Cheers Diane
